fake rolex datejust 16233 vs other models

Pick first: spec-built 16233 with a 3135 clone

Buy the version with these four traits. Skip any listing that fails one of them.

how to differentiate fake rolex datejust 16233

  • Case: 36 mm, 316L or 904L steel, lugs shaped for the 16233. The 16013 lug profile is a different shape and sits wrong on the wrist.
  • Gold: wrapped bezel and center links, 3 microns or more. Plating under 2 microns wears through at the crown and the clasp edge.
  • Movement: Asian 3135 clone, 28,800 vph, quickset date at crown position two. The beat rate matches the original.
  • Crystal: 2.5x cyclops, centered over the date window. Off-center magnification is the first thing a dealer checks.

Price band: about $450 to $650 from a seller with photos of the actual unit. Ask for a shot of the date window at an angle and a shot of the clasp code.

Three options by budget

Option 1: entry build, $150 to $250

ETA 2824 clone, 28,800 vph. Gold plating 1 to 2 microns. Printed dial with flat sunburst. Date font is wide and the open 6 and 9 are wrong. This build works as a daily beater. Expect plating loss at the crown within a year.

Option 2: mid build, $300 to $450

3135 clone. Plating 2 to 3 microns. Applied markers with correct lume plots. Cyclops is close to 2.5x but sits high. Bracelet end links fit with a small gap at the lugs. This is the volume tier and the one most sellers push.

Option 3: top build, $600 and up

Gold-wrapped bezel and center links, not plated. Correct lug shape, gen-spec crystal, champagne or silver dial with sharp print. Date wheel with open 6 and 9. Clasp code stamp reads clean under a loupe. This tier is the closest match to the 16233 case geometry.

Checks before you pay

  1. Weight: a solid 18k bezel outweighs a plated steel bezel by several grams. A light head points to steel where gold should be.
  2. Bezel flutes: count them and check the cut. Shallow flutes catch light in a flat band.
  3. Dial print: the coronet sits under the 12 marker with even space on both sides.
  4. Crown: gold color on the crown must match the bezel. Mismatched tone is a common flaw.
  5. Movement sound: a 3135 clone winds smooth and hacks. A gritty wind points to a cheap 2813.

Legal and shipping notes

Counterfeit watches are illegal to import and sell in the US. Customs can seize a shipment and the buyer has no recourse. Sellers outside the US carry the risk in most cases, but the parcel is what gets held. Payment by card gives a chargeback path. Bank transfer does not.

Factory names change and stock moves. Exact production numbers for any single batch are not public, so treat a seller's claim of a specific factory with caution and ask for photos of the piece in hand.
