Short answer
IW93835 is not an IWC reference number. IWC Schaffhausen prints six digits after the IW prefix, as in IW377701 or IW500705. No IWC catalog lists IW93835. Replica sellers use the code as a listing SKU. The same watch appears under different codes on different sites.
What the code covers
No public record ties IW93835 to one factory, one movement, or one case size. Specs change between listings. Seller text for this code names a 41 mm case, 316L steel, sapphire glass, and an automatic chronograph movement. Some listings claim an ETA 7750 movement. That is a Swiss chronograph caliber made by ETA. Other listings name the Seagull ST19, a Chinese column-wheel caliber. Photos on the page may not match the shipped item.
Why sellers use codes
A code hides the brand name from search filters and from payment processors. A page titled IW93835 avoids the word IWC in the text. The buyer has to identify the brand from the photos. Codes also let a seller change suppliers without changing the URL.
Legal status in the United States
18 U.S.C. § 2320 makes trafficking in counterfeit goods a federal crime. A first offense carries up to 10 years in prison and a $2 million fine for an individual. 19 U.S.C. § 1526 lets U.S. Customs and Border Protection seize counterfeit goods at the border. Personal use is not a defense. CBP destroys seized items, and the seller keeps the money.
Price range
Listings that carry codes like IW93835 ask $200 to $600. A genuine IWC chronograph sells for $5,000 and up. The gap funds a different supply chain: third-party cases, cloned movements, and no factory service.
Checks before a purchase
- Match the code to the maker's own catalog. IWC uses IW plus six digits.
- Ask for the movement name and the factory name in writing.
- Treat water resistance claims as unverified. A caseback print is not a pressure test.
- Read the return terms. Most sellers ship from overseas and accept no returns.
- Check the payment method. Card networks block counterfeit sales, so sellers push wire transfer and crypto. Those transfers cannot be reversed.
Unknowns
Data on build quality under this code does not exist outside seller pages. Treat any spec sheet as a claim from the seller, not a measurement.
