What a replica Rolex Datejust Jubilee is

The Rolex Datejust with a Jubilee bracelet is a watch with five rows of links: three narrow center links and two wider outer links. Rolex introduced the Jubilee in 1945 for the Datejust. Genuine case sizes are 31 mm, 36 mm, and 41 mm. Current references include the 126234 at 36 mm and the 126334 at 41 mm.

A replica is a counterfeit copy of that watch. It copies the case shape, dial, cyclops lens, and bracelet. Most units come from factories in China and sell through online stores and social media accounts. No replica uses a Rolex movement. Rolex does not sell parts, cases, or bracelets to third parties.

  • Water resistance: untested on most units. The genuine Datejust is rated to 100 m.

Grade labels have no standard

Sellers use terms such as AAA, 1:1, Swiss made, and super clone. No trade body defines these words. Two sellers can label the same factory output in different ways. Photos of one unit do not prove what ships.

Gold plating and plating loss

Two-tone and full-gold replicas use plating, not solid gold. Plating thickness runs from 1 to 5 microns on common units. Skin acid and friction wear it off. Solid 18k case copies exist but cost thousands of dollars.

Faults buyers report

  • Date font too wide.
  • Cyclops magnification below 2.5x.
  • Rehaut engraving misaligned with the dial coronet.
  • Sharp clasp edges and bracelet rattle.
  • Movement rate outside plus or minus 15 seconds a day.

Legal status in the United States

Trafficking in counterfeit goods is a federal crime under 18 U.S.C. 2320. Penalties reach 10 years in prison for a first offense and 20 years for repeat offenses. CBP seizes counterfeit watches at the border. A single watch can be seized even when it is for personal use. Resale carries more risk than personal possession.

Checks before payment

Ask for photos of the movement, the caseback, the clasp code, and timegrapher output. Ask for the serial on the rehaut. Sellers who refuse these requests offer no recourse. Wire transfer and gift cards do not allow a chargeback.
